Long term (water)

Haven't done much here yet, but will probaly be using some of the ideas demonstrated at Hockerton.

TANKS

PONDS
Shelter them with windbreaks to reduce evaporation from sun and wind.
Clay - natural seal.
Grow willow around edge and coppice.

SOIL
Dig swales to take run off from road and let it soak slowly into ground. Raises water table and reduces risk of flooding.
Dig swales along the contour lines - i.e. around the hill. Can even use moist micro-climate for special planting. What plant?

Plant trees - help hold back water loss

RIVERS
Have lots of little dams to slow down the water. Site higher up than areas that need to be irrigated.
