It's taken me a long time to accept it: That global warming and climate change will affect me. But unlike those much better people who are trying their darnedest to stop it from happening, my approach is more pessimistic. I assume that bad things will happen and I want to learn how to survive when they do.

Unfortunately, this pessimistic view seems increasingly realistic. James Lovelock (Mr Gaia) says we have passed the tipping point and will need a "guidebook for global warming survivors". His opinion is based on a detailed scientific understanding. I'm no scientist, but living with humans for 37 years leads me to the same conclusion! I really hope we're both wrong.

So how can we survive in a sustainable way? I believe our future actions should be based on the idea that we are guests on this planet: what we do should be as inoffensive as possible. I don't think we have a natural right to "manage" the world or that we are "higher" beings. That's the kind of bunkum that's got us into this mess!
